Original, colourful, creative and inspirational, amusing people in offices. This is what a work space filled with the new table system from the U1 workshop should look like. The company is now showing this new product line for the very first time at the Designblok in Prague. The designer duo Vrtiška Žák is behind the design. The authors want to enrich impersonal office space with delicate elements that have bold character, to give every client the opportunity to create their worktop according to their imagination colour and accessory wise.

SOFT WORK ZONES BRING REFRESHMENT 15. 6. 2017
One of the most common mistakes made by many companies is the mistaking of "soft" work spaces for those of relaxation. A relaxation space is one where it is possible to rest, perhaps even to sleep, and one which contains elements that lead people away from work. On the contrary, activation is necessary to working. The new trend is to stand while working. To give people elements due to which they can work while standing, at least for a little while. The reason is that after having worked an entire day sitting down, the attendance of a short meeting standing up engages entirely different muscle groups. A "hard" space is one where we carry out continual work. It is where we work with permanent tools (the telephone, IT equipment) with minimal outside interaction. This outside interaction takes place in the soft spaces. It is where telephone calls take place, and plentiful contact between people takes place. Everything should be organized in such a manner that people should only spend the necessary time in this space to carry out specific tasks.
Members of generation Z, born from the mid-90’s up, have different expectations from their work than the generations before them. They are the Children of the internet, and they are individualists. Therefore, they want to move freely between their work and private lives, educate themselves while working and be employed in an environment which allows all of this. Only one in five Czech companies is prepared for the arrival of the so-called post-millennials.Press
7 STEPS TO AN EFFECTIVE WORKPLACE 2. 5. 2017
Office space, when compared to wages, is usually a small fraction of a company’s expenses. Although its impact is not easily expressed in numbers, it has a great deal of influence on an all-round good atmosphere and efficiency. For this reason, investing time and resources in office environments pays off greatly. Czech companies are not used to this. However, the time of growth in the economy and a shortage of high-quality employees is motivating many of them to focus on this side of business as well
After a few bad years, a new surge in construction of new office buildings is expected. The ever increasing competition is pushing the construction of modern facilities of international parameters.
“The progress is most prominent in Prague and Brno, where office parks of considerable size are forming. These have positive influences on the quality of the office space, because they put a lot of emphasis on utilising recent world trends in office environment.”
- Radek Mašinda, a designer at U1
So we left a well-paid job and set off on a journey, during which we wanted to assert our ideas and bring our new solutions to reality, incorporating all our company stands for.
Our goal was to come up with a concept of space and its arrangement to best serve the needs of the company and its employees, while at the same time creating harmony with the historical building. The result was a lavish central room with the original flooring and reliefs combined with contemporary elements and light fixtures, which are consistent with the original interior.
WHAT YOU WOULDN’T EXPECT TO FIND IN AN OFFICE 28. 2. 2017
Offices of the future contribute to competitiveness and creativity, while at the same time being equipped with everything at hand – a coffee maker, water, refreshment, systems to plug in electrical appliances, as well as work equipment (access to documents via touchscreen technologies, wireless charging etc.). Every employee will have, more or less, free access to all the office space thanks to a variety of mobile solutions, so it will be up to them where to spend their working hours and what environment fits them the best.
We designed a floor of open offices for a few hundred people, and we ensured enough personal and living space. We tried to meet the future generation of employees halfway, so that they would feel good here, had somewhere to put their things and relax when they need to.
A smartphone in one hand, a tablet in the other, a laptop in the third one and a gaming console in the fourth. With a pinch of salt, this is how a typical Gen Z member could be described.
Press
Office of the future? A living organism! 3. 11. 2016
Many of us may still remember the stuffy offices full of cigarette smoke, ringing with the sounds of typewriters. Then the 90’s computer era came and, along with it, a new trend – tiny and stale cupboards were replaced with breezy, open-space type planning. Nowadays, we are again one step ahead.Press

It seems like Brno will always be second fiddle in the Czech Republic. Although not in everything. Brno outpaces Prague in office environment. For example, in IT companies, the fraction residing in buildings with a quality standard defined as class A is distinctly larger in Brno than in Prague. On top of that, the South-Moravian capitol saw the emergence of the company U1, a company which provides top quality office interiors.Press
Five things you wouldn’t expect in an office 3. 11. 2016
The office environment has changed dramatically in the last quarter-century. This is, of course, related to the development of office equipment. While in the 90’s, piles of three-ring binders and filing folders were essential equipment, and computers took up most of the desk. Today’s office, a tablet and a flash drive, can easily fit into a handbag, and future trends go even further.Press

Feedback for the completion of the interiors for FEI 27. 1. 2016
“We spend a major part of our lives at work. The design of the workplace and the common areas - colourful composition, selection of equipment and furniture - was crucial for us in the building process of our new technological centre. We engaged with our employees in the whole project, in order for them to be able to realize their ideas. In U1 we found experienced professionals who offered us expert know-how and a willingness to listen and discuss our needs. U1 was a key partner for the resulting interior atmosphere and its combination with architecture. We are glad that almost everyone feels good in our company now. U1 carried out the lion’s share in this effort.”

Friendly offices benefit company development 16. 1. 2015
The times of struggling by the desk with a pen and paper, or a noisy typewriter, surrounded by piles of three-ring binders are long gone. They were pushed aside by the “modern” era. In bigger cities those tiny rooms were replaced by open-space type offices, which have many perks – co-workers are much easier to reach this way.Press
